Police take game one in ABL women basketball finals

The 2019 Women Final Playoffs tipped off at the Prisons’ Headquarters in Cantonments Accra on Wednesday November 13 2019.

It is a best of three playoff series between GRA and Police who were first and second in the all play all league format which ended last month.

GRA had beaten Police twice in the league and also in the CAP 7 tournament played in September to honour Accra Basketball League former chairman, Benjamin Baafi.

GRA won the first quarter 14 – 7. Police fought back in the second quarter and took the lead ending the half at 24-25. GRA took back the lead by the end of the third quarter which ended 37 -36. Police eventually won the game 48 -45.

Matilda Gordon led the GRA team with 14 points. Anita added 11 points and Gloria Gyampo scored 9 points. The GRA team was a combined 6 for 20 from the free throw line.

Zenabu Mohammed who hit a three at the end of the game led the Police team with 14 points. The Police big three, Sadat Barikisu, Mavis Martey and Georgina Ntow all scored 10 points each. Police were more efficient from the free throw line scoring 6 of 13 attempts.

Game two of the finals will be at the Lebanon House on Saturday.
